You are welcome, Mr. Sinha. I am glad you liked this list and I would also like to thank you for sharing 13 more books. I will check if these are available online and then will either update the same article or write a new one. Meanwhile, I am railfan myself and if you don’t mind, I would like to connect with you offline. Please let me know if that’s fine with you.
The book featuring at 87 – Iron Ore, the Railway Story -by Sri GK Mohanty is probably the only book available book on (current) rail logistics involving transportation of iron ore. Because of history of scam, mining and movement of iron ore is most closely monitored commodity. A very useful book for railwaymen and rail users alike!
Indeed, Mr Dansana.
Thank you for featuring my book” Bridges and Crossings”. I am a child of the Indian Railways and I have always considered trains as my second home
Meera
You are most welcome, Meera ma’am. It’s my honour to feature your book on the list.
One of the best books on IR is 100 Years of Indian Railways by J N Sahni brought out to celebrate the centenary of Indian Railways.
Thank you for recommending this, sir. I have now added this book to the list.
Thank you, Zeeshan, for featuring my book, THE STATION MASTER, in your list. I am so honoured to have been picked! The stories therein are all drawn from the real-life experiences of the eponymous station master. I will be beyond words to have more people read and review it.
You are most welcome, Mr Mukherjee! Thank you for those kind words 🙂
Interesting compilation of books on Indian Railways. However you missed out on 2 wonderful books.
1. India No Problem Sahib – a state by state tour of India and her railways. Peter Jordan, Richard Paget and David Charlesworth.
2. The Imperial Way – making tracks from Peshawar to Chittagong. By Paul Theroux and Steve McCurry.
Thank you very much and I’m glad you liked the compilation. I had added the 2 books, mentioned by you, in the first version of this post. However, since they were out of stock on Amazon, I removed them. Will check and add again if available.
Dear Mr Mulla. I have now added these two books to the list. Thanks for letting me know about them 🙂
Congratulations on reaching 100, Zeeshan. Your list is useful not just for rail fans, but also for Railway libraries.
Thank you so much, Mr Sinha. I am really glad you liked the compilation and thank you once again for those words of appreciation 🙂
A very interesting and useful compilation. Commendations.
One of the books that needs to be added is ‘travels by a lesser line’ by Bill Aitken.
This book is out of print now, but describes the travel by Metre gauge (now almost extinct) from North to South India. A useful chronicle of the times when one could travel by MG as an alternate system.
Thank you and I’m glad you found this compilation useful. I managed to find the book “travels by a lesser line” by Bill Aitken on Amazon. Will add it in the next update along with his other book Branch line to eternity.
Thank you Zeeshan for including my book “Trailing Window” in your list.
It’s my pleasure, Ramarao sir 🙂
Dear Sir,
Thanks a lot for including my book”Journey of A Railway Man ” in the list.
This book has been liked by Railway Engineers and Railway Equipment Manufacturers.
I am grateful to you for bringing this in the list. This will help others to read this book who are interested in knowing the Electric Locomotives design and development along with intricacies of its operation and maintenance on IR in Greater details.
With best wishes
